During my pregnancy with Little Miss I jumped straight into unflattering maternity wear and completely lost all sense of my own personal style, and in turn lost a little bit of me. This time around I was determined to stay me and a lot of that, for me at least, came down to wardrobe.
If you, too, are looking for some non-maternity wear to get you through the in-between stages of the first 3 months and perhaps a little further beyond, here, my top five pieces, all non-maternity, that were all on high rotation during the first five months.
1. The short set
Cecilie Copenhagen YELLOW Collection Shirt V & Short in Colour 01 available directly from Cecilie Copenhagen or through Parlour X in Sydney. The a-line shape of the Shirt V (and the Shirt O for that matter) and the elasticised waist of the Short make this Cecilie Copenhagen pair perfect for the beginning of the pregnancy journey. The woven cotton fabric is light enough to keep you cool (a must for me during pregnancy when I become a walking, talking heater) yet structured enough to ensure it does not cling to the little bulge that is yet to become a nice round tummy. Well priced, from $95, a flattering multi print pattern and reasonable space in the breast area despite its one size sizing (I am wearing 14C/D bras at the moment and it feels comfortable) and you have an ideal starter to your non-maternity pregnancy wardrobe.
2. The fluid shirt
Witchery long-sleeved gathered blouseI initially purchased this top in black on a whim and loved it so much that I have gone back and invested in the white and khaki version. The v-neck is perfect for your growing chest and the length at the front means that during the early in-between days you can tuck it in to give yourself a little bit of shape and later on leave it out flowing over that growing tummy. At $99.95 and super easy to wash on your regular cycle (no need to wait until you are doing a load of delicates) this breezy blouse can be worn both day and night.
3. The leather legging
Willow leather leggingI have had a love affair with these leather leggings for a while now (Willow have now sold these for at least three seasons). The super comfy leather is easy to move in and the elasticised waistband makes it bump friendly. I now wear these under my bump paired with a long line top. You can’t go wrong with black leather.
4. The chambray shirt dress
Decjuba dress (find similar here)I was newly pregnant and needed a bit of a lift when I purchased this dress. I thought it would be a 1 month wonder, however, in turns out, the shape of a shirt dress is perfect for a growing bump (just make sure you buy a size with plenty of room in the breast). I usually team it with my all time old-favourites, white tennis Bensimon sneakers (shoelaces removed) or a pair of Hobes, for an easy run-around outfit.
5. Tie front tee
Scanlan Theodore cotton tee (find similar here)This top will really carry you from the early stages of pregnancy (the knotted tie will do wonders to cover any bulge) through to the 5th or 6th month (the stretchy material allows for maximum comfort and the knot can be worn under the belly). Definitely one of my favourite pieces.
Bump-friendly, non-maternity: my mantra for as long as I can get away with it! xxC
